God had been telling Jeremiah of all the destruction that would befall Israel because of their wickedness and their unfaithfulness to the covenant between them and God—but, destruction isn’t God’s final goal, restoration is…

They shall be My people, and I will be their God….For thus says the Lord: Just as I have brought all this great calamity on this people, so I will bring on them all the good that I have promised them. – Jeremiah 32:38,42

On the heels of these declarations of a hopeful future for Israel, God tells Jeremiah:

Call to Me, and I will answer you, and show you great and mighty things, which you do not know. – Jeremiah 33:3

Remember, that though specific promises made to Israel aren’t for believers today, the God of the Old Testament is the God of the New Testament. God hasn’t changed. Nothing is too hard for Him, including bringing peace and restoration to a wicked and rebellious people. God is able to do great and mighty things which we do not know—which we don’t think are even possible!

Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us, to Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen. – Ephesians 3:20-21

This is the God who hears us and cares about us. He is a God who can do great and mighty things, exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think. Remember that.
