The book of Isaiah records Isaiah’s predictions and warnings to Israel of their coming exile and capture by their enemies as judgment of their wickedness. It’s not all doom and gloom though, because the book also includes the hopeful message that there will be a Messianic King and a glorious future kingdom where God’s people of all nations will gather, flourish, and enjoy knowing their Creator.

“For behold, I create new heavens and a new earth; and the former shall not be remembered or come to mind…It shall come to pass that before they call, I will answer; and while they are still speaking, I will hear. – Isaiah 65:17, 24

God is speaking here, describing what the new heavens and new earth will be like and vs. 24 seems to be evidence of God’s closeness. Picture it this way: In a close relationship such as a marriage, the husband can give his wife a look and she can answer his unspoken message. Or the wife can speak to her husband and while she’s talking she sees him nodding and knows that he’s listening.  In the new heavens and new earth, God is so near and accessible to His people, the relationship so restored, that whoever speaks to Him can know while they are speaking that He is hearing, and perhaps with only just a look, He will answer.
